AAAI Spring Concert Series

The African American Arts Institute (AAAI) is committed to promoting and preserving African American culture through performance, education, creative activity, research, and outreach. This spring, the Buskirk-Chumley Theater is proud to host events for each of AAAI’s three performance ensembles.

Saturday, April 7, 8pm: The internationally renowned African American Dance Company presents its 44th Spring Concert on April 7, 2018, at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. Directed by Baba Stafford C. Berry Jr., the Dance Company will share movement traditions and dances from the Americas and the African diaspora—a unique fusion of African styles, contemporary, jazz, hip hop, and more. The African American Dance Company has performed on stages all over the world, including China, Jamaica, and Cuba. Saturday, April 14, 8pm: The IU Soul Revue, America’s first and finest collegiate popular music ensemble, presents its 47th Spring Concert on April 14, 2018, at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. Directed by James Strong, IU Soul Revue alum and renowned bassist and musical director, the Revue will perform Black popular music from the 1960s through today. From Funk and Soul to R&B and Hip Hop, the Soul Revue will have you on your feet dancing to the music. Don’t miss this IU and Bloomington treasure! Click HERE for tickets.

Saturday, April 28, 8pm: The critically acclaimed African American Choral Ensemble presents its 43rd Spring Concert on April 28, 2018 at Buskirk-Chumley Theater. “Inspirational,” “uplifting,” and “transformative” is how audiences describe the African American Choral Ensemble’s concerts. The Choral Ensemble features a broad repertoire of African American choral music including spirituals, traditional and contemporary gospel music, and formally composed works by African American composers. TICKETS: Tickets for all three AAAI events are $20 for adults, $10 for anyone 17 or under, or who can present a student ID. Purchase 10 or more tickets to any single AAAI event and receive a group discount by entering promo code 

Doors will open at 7:30pm for each event, and each show runs about 2 hours, with one 15-minute intermission.
