Since it was built in 1923 as a Model T assembly plant and showroom, the Monroe Convention Center has evolved into a space where the modern meets the historical. Centrally located in the heart of downtown Bloomington, the center employs a professional event planning staff and features a varied collection of works by local artists on permanent display. The center is fully accessible and parking is plentiful in adjacent lots.
The NAACP, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, is the oldest, largest and strongest civil rights organization in the United States. Their principal objective is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of minority group citizens of the United States. The NAACP is committed to non-violence and relies upon the press, the petition, the ballot and the courts, even in the face of overt and violent racial hostility.
The Monroe County Branch NAACP meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm at Second Baptist Church at 321 N. Rogers Street in Bloomington.
