The Power of Words:
Changing Our World – One Author at a Time

poster with Margaret McMullan photo and event description

The 2019 Friends of the Library Power of Words program, The Perspective of Memory: Fear, Empowerment, Forgiveness, brings award-winning author Margaret McMullan to Bloomington. McMullan’s newest work, Where the Angels Lived: One Family’s Story of Exile, Loss, and Return is a moving look at the author’s own connection to the Holocaust, her family’s exile in Hungary during WWII, and the redemptive power of knowing and owning your own story. Join us for this free program to be part of a visible community of readers hearing from an author writing on important topics of our time.

Look for other related programs taking place at Monroe County Public Library leading up to McMullan’s talk HERE. You may check out a book club kit with 10 copies of Where the Angels Lived and a discussion guide HERE.

In conjunction with Power of Words, McMullan will also meet with students who are reading her books Sources of Light and How I Found the Strong at Bloomington High School North, as well as Jackson Creek, Tri-North, and Batchelor Middle Schools.

We are grateful for the support that makes community literary events like this possible, including a grant from Indiana Humanities, as well as ongoing support from the Paula B. Anderson Endowment for the Power of Words, and for our partnerships with IU Themester: Remembering and Forgetting and with Bloom Magazine.

Doors will open at 6:30pm for this general admission event. The program will last about 90 minutes.
