The Friends of the Library and Monroe County Public Library welcome New York Times best-selling author Jamie Ford to the historic Buskirk-Chumley Theater for The Power of Words: Changing Our World—One Author at a Time. With mesmerizing and evocative storytelling, Ford’s work explores the themes of family, racism, and love and loss with poignant, heartfelt prose. Ford discusses his novels, including Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, and his latest, Love and Other Consolation Prizes, as well as his experiences as a biracial Chinese American growing up in a multicultural family.
Ford’s talk is part of our NEA Big Read, providing another perspective on the issues raised in our Big Read selection, Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng. We invite you to join the community conversation to broaden our understanding of our world, our community, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book.
A special thank you to our Power of Words event sponsors who allow us to offer this talk for free to everyone in our community: NEA Big Read, IU Libraries, Paula B. Anderson Endowment for the Power of Words, Becky A. Hrisomalos, Marilyn and Paul Irwin, and Marilyn and Marty Wood.
Doors will open at 6:30pm for this free, unticketed event.
