The Texas Troubadours tour celebrates the great songwriting tradition of the Lone Star State and features Ruthie Foster, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and Carrie Rodriguez, three Texas-based artists who are known around the globe for their excellent songs and their distinctive voices. Each is a critically acclaimed performer in their own right, and the Texas Troubadours tour brings them together on stage for the first time, swapping songs and collaborating on each other’s material.
Ruthie Foster mixes a broad palette of American song forms, from gospel and blues to jazz, folk, and soul. Foster’s last three albums were Grammy contenders, and she has received numerous Blues Music Awards and Austin Music Awards (including the award for Best Female Vocalist). She comes from the tiny town of Gause (population 400), did a tour of duty in the US Navy, and currently lives in Austin.
Jimmie Dale Gilmore has been writing and playing songs for more than 50 years. His music blends elements of folk, rock, country, blues, and bluegrass. Gilmore is a native of the Texas panhandle and, along with Joe Ely and Butch Hancock, founded legendary band The Flatlanders back in 1972. He has also been nominated for multiple Grammy awards, and Rolling Stone magazine twice named him Country Artist of the Year. You may recognize him from hit film The Big Lebowski, where he portrayed a bowler named Smokey.
A passionate performer, Carrie Rodriguez melds fiery fiddle playing, electrifying vocals, and a fresh interpretation of new and classic songs with an “Ameri-Chicana” attitude. Rodriguez, the daughter of Texan singer-songwriter David Rodriguez, released her critically acclaimed album Lola in February. Named one of NPR’s top 30 releases of 2016, the album is inspired by a 1940s-era recording of Carrie’s great aunt, Chicana singing sensation Eva Garza.
Doors will open at 7:30 for this reserved seating event. The Texas Troubadours will perform as a trio and there will be no opening performer.
